Laryssa Braaten

Laryssa first fostered kittens through Front Street Animal Shelter May of 2019 and that was just the beginning of her involvement with the shelter and her love of fostering. In addition to fostering through FS, Laryssa has since fostered through Animal Outreach of the Motherlode, Yolo County and NorCal GSP Rescue. She is a sucker for an underdog, frequently bringing home “broken” kittens and cats from the shelter to rehabilitate.

While felines are her true passion, Laryssa and her husband became more involved with NorCal GSP Rescue when their beloved German Shorthaired Pointer passed in 2022. He was the heart and soul of their household and they have been filling that void with the occasional GSP foster ever since.

In addition to fostering, Laryssa is a mentor to other kitten fosters, providing guidance and supportive care to others that foster through FS. She volunteers at the shelter in various cat-related activities and will talk your ear off about how great the staff and volunteers are.

Laryssa joined the Board in 2021 seeking a way to make a bigger impact (with less risk of “foster failing”!) and was chosen as the communications chair later that year. Laryssa is on the event planning committee and is passionate about increasing outreach to the community and sharing the work that we do to help animals in our community and the people who love them!
